Bhutanese Poet Honored

On the occasion of India’s 74th Independence Day, a 33-year-old Bhutanese poet, Shiva Kumari Bista, was honored with an award by Gujarat Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with Motivational Strips, a writers’ forum incepted in India.

The organizers claimed that this was the first time two world popular literary entities had merged to identify national and international talents.

“I feel that my effort in poetry has seen success finally. It is a proud moment for me and my country. I feel that this award would be making our Bhutanese writers more recognizable worldwide”, Bhutan Times quotes Bista as saying.

Bista, who lives in Thimpu, is originally from Damphu, Chirang. She writes regularly on her Facebook Page.
