Dhakal and Siwa join LCOB’s editorial board
Literature Council of Bhutan (LCOB) has nominated Mr. Partiman Siwa and Dr. Laxmi Narayan Dhakal as a member of its publication board. Mr. Siwa and Dr. Dhakal joined LCOB’s publication board as editor wef 1st January 2018.
“We are pleased to welcome two dynamic personalities of Bhutanese literature to our board and are eagerly looking forward to working together for the betterment of language and literature,” said Ramesh Gautam, the publication coordinator of LCOB.
Both Mr. Siwa and Dr. Dhakal have served in different organizations, including LCOB, in different capacities.
Mr. Siwa, one of the first Bhutanese students to appear SLC examination in Nepal, holds a BS in Biology from Mechi Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University. Mr. Siwa published a Nepali poetry collection “dobharu” (Nepali: डोबहरू) in 2001.
Dr. Dhakal holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Sampurnand Sanskrit University and an MA in Sanskrit literature and a Postgraduate Diploma in Nepali literature both from Banaras Hindu University. Dr. Dhakal has a long experience from different educational, political, social and literary organizations.
In the restructured editorial team, Ramesh Gautam shall also shoulder the responsibility of managing editor. Gautam, who is also the founding chair of Bhutaneseliterature.com, the publishing platform of LCOB, served as managing editor of Bhutaneseliterature.com from the time of its inception in 2009 to 2011 and as chief-editor from 2011 to 2014.
With chief editor Yati Raj Ajanabee and editor Shiva Lal Dahal, the editorial board is now a five-member body.
Dr. Laxmi Narayan Dhakal:
Dr. Laxmi Narayan Dhakal, one of the most proficiently qualified and eminent figures in the Bhutanese Nepali literary science and its root, was born in Dagapela, Bhutan in 1977. He has earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from the Sampurnanda University of Varanasi, along with an M.A in Sanskrit and Nepali literature, a B.A in Buddhist philosophy and a B.Ed in education.
With his keen interest in literature from his early age, he has been contributing in the field of literature as a writer, editor, educator and structural formation of various literary organizations like the then ‘Nepali Bhaasaa Parishad-Bhutan’ (which was subsequently reformed in 2011 to Literature Council of Bhutan) etc.
His strong support and contribution in the publication of different magazines and newspapers like ‘Bhutani Kopila’, ‘Sandesh’, ‘Bhutani nawasandesh’, ‘Bhutan Jaagaran’, etc make him a prominent figure in the field of Bhutanese Nepali literature.
Presently, he has been resettled in Louisville, Kentucky of America where his literary work is flourishing well for the benefit of whole Nepali speaking community in America and around the globe.
Mr. Partiman Siwa:
Partiman Siwa, born in Chirang Bhutan in 1972 and lived his early days at Daifam Bhutan, is one of the first to appear and pass SLC (School Leaving Certificate- a secondary level school education) examination in the early 90s in Bhutanese Refugee Education history. Since then, after receiving proper literary nourishment and education from the then ‘Nepali Bhaasaa Parishad-Bhutan’ (which was subsequently reformed in 2011 to Literature Council of Bhutan), has developed a strong lineage towards Bhutanese Nepali literature.
From those early days, he has committed himself in writing poetry and other literary works contributing to Bhutanese Nepali literary field. His first published book “dobharu” (Nepali: डोबहरू) in 2001 established him as a dynamic poet. After completing his higher secondary education from Biratnagar, he earned a BS in Biology (Zoology) from Bhadrapur, Nepal.
Presently, resettled in Ohio, America, he is still giving continuity in his literary works with a stronger presence. He believes in preserving the mother tongue “Nepali” and its literature and handing it to our coming generations and so on.
