Bhutanese Language, Literature And Their Challenges

Resettlement has undeniably given novel optimism of life to the Bhutanese in Diaspora. There is immense transformation in the lifestyle of the people in the resettled countries. Health is improved, living standard is improved, use of means and technology is improved and the contemplations and common senses have been improved. Progressively they are depicting the existing conventional modus operandi of the resettled country. Along with these transformation, the challenge for the perpetuation of Bhutanese language, literature and culture also has increased. In the name of community work, today, in every states, we find a “Community” registered to the government as an organization to advocate the hitches of the Bhutanese community. But we don’t find any activities to advocate the language and literature carried out by them in most of the states. Beside the presentation of some cultural dances and songs, we cannot find other activities for their preservation. Bhutanese literature dot com is only the site that is advocating upon the preservation of Bhutanese language and literature. And it has enormous challenges with it.

Language is such a social facet that it dies in a half when its script is lost. Unused language looses another quarter of its vocabulary within the epoch of a decade. A community may lose its first language without its use after the time of two to three decades. A language requires a lots of weeding. It has to be nurtured with great heed and sustenance. Literature is a mechanism that provides this cherish. Since, there is no any detach community centers of Bhutanese in any place in the resettled countries, gathering the children to coach the language has become a great challenge for the Bhutanese. Secondly, conscience of the parents also plays vital role in cooperation. Unless parents create awareness upon the children on the significance of the first language, enforcement learning does not provide any support to the mission. Time has come now to think on how we carry out the literary activities in each state and may be in the apartments. Time has come to think to teach Bhutanese languages in the Bhutanese community in Diaspora. Time has come to make several discussions and debates on the preservation of Bhutanese language, literature and culture. Time has come to think on the hardcopy publication of the literary works of the Bhutanese community.

As a saying goes “Teamwork Ensures an Achieved Mission (TEAM)”. It is a teamwork to tackle the above mentioned challenges.
