When as a child I saw this time sleep
D. N. Kafle
Adelaide, Australia
And when this winter
Astray the
stardust, the dry leaves
Of orchids, madrono and rollinia
It brings back to me those ethereal memories
When, as a
child, I saw this time sleep
On the lap of cruelty
Lifelessly
Indistinctively
And
Phenomenally
And when this soulful anthem
Rings the truth-high and low
And in rush and slow;
The hidden verdicts of the
Perfidy of the nature,
It brings back to me those ethereal memories
When, as a child, I saw this time sleep
On the lap of cruelty
Lifelessly
Indistinctively
And
Phenomenally
And when this photo yellowed in the sweats of ageing
Swings along the
Long died empty walls of this dead house
It brings
back to me those ethereal memories
When, as a child, I saw this time sleep
On the lap of cruelty
Lifelessly
Indistinctively
And
Phenomenally
And when the shrill of the kindergarten
Children enlivens the lullabies
And touches my naiad ears
With the whiff of their tenderness
It brings back to me those ethereal memories
When, as a child, I saw this time sleep
On the lap of cruelty
Lifelessly
Indistinctively
And
Phenomenally
I have no reservations,
I have no regrets
To its
cosy qualms
What I as a child knew of this cruel time,
That dances in its whimsical ballads of
Heinous cravings!
