Bhutaneseliterature.com in 2011

Waving a final good-bye to 2011, we have welcomed New Year 2012. The first issue of this year is out on the same day. We have a hope that this year will prove itself to be a productive year for our literary activities.

We are here making a review of Bhutaneseliterature.com for the year 2011. Bhutaneseliterature.com was formally launched in May, 2009. During the course of its continuous (but significantly short) journey of three years, Bhutaneseliterature.com has experienced many motivating moments. Developing a common platform for the writers (who are geographically dispersed across the globe) for expressing their sentiments is not an easy task. In fact, a culture of reading and writing is just rooting slowly. Despite being in this circumstance, we have been able to publish around 450 new articles in 2011.

But we still lag behind, in a sense, to bring forward critical write-ups, reports based on research and varied literary creations. We have published a lot of poems, gajals and alike and have tried to bring some stories, literary analyses and some reports. It is still a beginning; a renaissance for protecting and promoting our language and literature.

A writer takes a long time to give a creation to the readers. He/she artistically presents the pains and sorrows, woes and worries, grieves and tragedies, hopes and aspirations, sentiments and romances and many more of the time he/she lives in. To a considerable extent, today’s Bhutanese writers are in most awkward time, the time that demands every drop of their sweat for minimum survival but yet they are writing. On the other hand, a bitter truth is that we have very few readers. An article in an issue is sometimes read less than a hundred times within a run of a year. This surely is not a motivating situation in literature but at the same time, owing to the fact that the number of readers is subsequently increasing, we need to be hopeful.

But our effort for making a difference is on its way and we hope to move ahead with a spirit dedicated to entire Bhutanese community. We are in juxtaposition— promoting our age-old culture, language and literature has a lesser significance to cultural integration silently metamorphosing to assimilation. Writing standing on this threshold is a real challenge.

Easy access to technology is still a distant dream to a generation and thus, bringing the writers of that generation to this platform has always been much more difficult than it was expected. This is the reason why it seems like this platform is a publication house for the young generation writers. 2011 was not successful enough to feature many new faces. We expect that we will be able to find some easy means as a solution to this.

Integration of Radio Srijana to Bhutaneseliterature.com is another important move that we have taken to provide our listeners with entertainment and information. Special audio episodes and the episodes under Aaprabaskaa suseliharu are all integrated to radio Srijana, thus making it a bigger radio platform that airs five different programs.

We still expect that a group of volunteers come forward with fervor to work for literature. We welcome every interested individual.
