Past Memory
Often in this foreign land,
After slumber’s chain frees me,
Past memory brings the deeds
Of the past around me.
The joyous plays of boyhood years,
Friendly words then spoken,
Deeds I won without fears,
Now dimmed and gone.
Cheerful games now ended,
Those jocular hours then mended,
All I remember now vividly,
All those past deeds distinctly.
When I remember all,
The team so linked without a fall,
Still I see you all around me
As the Pacific drops I see.
I feel as if with you all
But all is gone as I fall
Off the bed to the floor
And reckon ye no more.
I feel aloof and too bored
As you all are no more
When slumber’s chain frees me,
Jolly past deeds come around me
